THE economic downturn has put a lid on house rent rises and renters are likely to benefit for some time, a new report says. Australian Property Monitors (APM) economist Matthew Bell said house rents stalled in June, in the most significant shift in the rental market since the data was first collated in 2005.

THE cost of renting in Perth has increased at a faster rate than almost every other city in Australia over the past year. The median rental asking price for a house in Perth is now $370, up 5.7 per cent from $350 in June last year, the Australian Property Monitors rental series for the June quarter released today shows.

HOUSE prices rose 2.8 per cent in the first four months of this year wiping out last year's price falls, new figures show. Prices rose in all Australian capital cities apart from Perth in the first four months of this year, according to the RP Data/Rismark Australian Home Value Index. The median Melbourne home price rose 4.5 per cent to $436,548.
