So now that you're off on your trip, you're wondering if your mobile phone will work while you're in Australia. The answer is I don't know. But my advice to you is take it with you and try. First off you need to contact the mobile phoen company you're with and get them to unlock your phone . The reason i tell you to do this is because if you bring your phone without unlocking it . When you try to fit a new austarlian sim card it won't work .
Phones from many GSM countries can be used in Australia. The most common GSM standard used is 900 MHz, but 1800 is also used. 1900 (used in the USA) is not used in Australia.
One thing you will need to do first is Make sure your phone is unlocked. This is a simple case of ringing the phone company you're with and getting them to do it for you. They will usually do this if you have been with them a certain amount of time or have used a certain amount of credit. The reason i tell you to do this is because if you bring your phone without unlocking it . When you try to fit a new austarlian sim card it won't work .
Then when you get to Australia you can go into one of the many phone shops and see if one of their prepaid sim cards will work. It is to do this as soon as you arrive in the country. That way family, friends and more importantly perspective employers can get in contact with you.
